Chemical Skin Peels

Revitalise your skin with our Chemical Skin Peels, designed to remove dead cells and reveal a fresher, smoother complexion.

Chemical Skin Peels Sydney

At our Sydney based clinic, we can provide you with a variety of skin peels to stimulate skin rejuvenation and resurfacing.

The specific and controlled mechanisms of our skin peels ensure that their activity on the skin's surface is limited. The full benefits of the ingredients are released once they reach the targeted layers. As the chemicals in the peel work on the skin, they gradually remove the upper layer, activating the skin’s healing process and revealing a fresh, rejuvenated layer. This approach minimises surface trauma and downtime while enhancing the skin's structure and function to address your skin concerns.

We recognise that each patient is unique, so we offer a variety of chemical peels with specific ingredient combinations. This enables us to select the ideal skin peel to address your individual needs. Our range of skin peels are available in light to medium strengths, which can be used to treat various concerns, including general discoloration, wrinkles, sun damage, scaly patches, and acne.
Chemical skin peel treatments take between 30 to 60 minutes. Downtime is minimal.
Results are immediately visible with a short healing period for final results.
Chemical skin peels start from $150 each. Multiple session packs available.

Suitable candidate for treatment

A suitable candidate for a skin peel treatment is someone looking to improve the overall texture and appearance of their skin. Ideal candidates include those with concerns such as fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skin tone, acne, or sun damage. Individuals should have realistic expectations and be committed to following the pre-treatment and post-treatment care instructions. It's important that candidates are not currently experiencing any severe skin conditions or infections and are not pregnant or nursing. A thorough consultation will determine if a skin peel is the right choice for you, ensuring the treatment is tailored to your specific skin type and needs.

The chemical skin peel treatment

Every skin peel starts with a detailed consultation to help you understand the procedure, possible side effects, and the importance of aftercare. The peel is selected specifically for your skin type and concerns, considering your skin color and tanning ability.

After thorough cleansing, the skin is prepped, and the chosen peel is applied. Once it has been on for the required time, it is neutralized. A cooling hyaluronic acid-based gel is then applied to soothe and hydrate the skin. You may feel a tolerable burning or stinging sensation during the application.

Note: Before a peel, the skin needs to be prepared with specific products for at least two weeks to ensure the best and most predictable results. Long-term results and skin health are achieved through a series of skin peels, advanced clinical facials, and a homecare program focused on prevention, correction, and protection.

downtime

Recovery and aftercare

The skin's reaction after treatment depends on the type of peel used. You might notice increased redness and tightness for up to two hours afterward. The skin may feel tight or dry, with mild flaking in some areas for a few days. In rare cases, you might experience slight swelling or crusting.

Appropriate skincare will be recommended on the day of your treatment to speed up healing, protect your skin, and enhance results. You can resume your normal skincare routine after day 3, with more active products introduced after day 5 or once the skin has returned to normal.

Note: Cold sores may reactivate, so consult your doctor for preventive medication before your skin peel.

Individual results can vary based on skin type, sensitivity, age, and skincare history.

Possible side effects

While skin peels are generally safe, there are some potential side effects to be aware of. Common side effects include redness, tightness, and dryness of the skin, which may last for a few days. Mild flaking or peeling in certain areas is also common as the skin regenerates. In rare instances, you may experience slight swelling or crusting.

Some individuals might notice a temporary increase in skin sensitivity, especially to sunlight. It's important to follow aftercare instructions to protect your skin and minimize these effects. In very rare cases, more serious side effects like scarring, infection, or changes in skin color can occur, particularly if the skin is not properly cared for after the treatment.

If you have a history of cold sores, a skin peel may trigger an outbreak. Consult your doctor about preventive measures before undergoing the treatment.

Always discuss any concerns or pre-existing conditions with your skincare professional to ensure the best possible results and minimize the risk of side effects.

skin peel faqs

A chemical peel is a skin-resurfacing procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove the top layers. The skin that grows back is smoother and younger-looking. Chemical peels can be done at different depths — light, medium, or deep — depending on the desired results and skin type.

Chemical peels can treat a variety of skin conditions, including acne scars, age spots, fine lines and wrinkles, freckles, irregular skin pigmentation, rough skin, sun-damaged skin, and certain types of acne.

There are three main types of chemical peels: superficial peels, medium peels, and deep peels. Superficial peels use mild acids like alpha-hydroxy acid to gently exfoliate. Medium peels use trichloroacetic or glycolic acid to reach the middle layers of skin. Deep peels use phenol or trichloroacetic acid to deeply penetrate the skin.

Preparation for a chemical peel includes stopping certain medications, using special lotions to enhance treatment, and avoiding sun exposure. The Medispa Clinic will give you specific instructions based on the type and depth of your peel.

During the procedure, your skin will be cleaned, and the chemical solution will be applied. You might feel a burning or stinging sensation for a few minutes. For deeper peels, pain relief or sedation may be required. The procedure typically lasts about 30 minutes to an hour.

Recovery time varies depending on the depth of the peel. Superficial peels require minimal downtime, while medium and deep peels can take several weeks to heal fully. Common side effects include redness, swelling, and peeling. It's important to follow our post-procedure care instructions to ensure proper healing.

Chemical peels are generally safe when performed by a qualified professional. However, risks can include scarring, infection, changes in skin color, and reactivation of cold sores. We will discuss potential risks and side effects with you before the procedure.

The number of treatments needed, will depend on the location and severity of pigmentation/solar damage. Quite often, one skin peel treatment on the face will improve textural and pigment changes by approximately 60-80%.

However, peeling of the chest and hands are more conservative due to the longer healing time compared to the face. One peel will reduce pigmentation by 30% in these areas. It is recommended to have a series of two-three peels for the chest or hands.

The cost depends on the depth of peel and the area to have treated. This means that every treatment has a different cost, tailored to each patient. Skin peels are NOT covered under private health or Medicare.

Good candidates for chemical peels are generally individuals with fair skin and light hair, as they are less likely to experience uneven skin tone after the procedure. However, people with darker skin can also achieve excellent results. We will assess your skin and medical history to determine if a chemical peel is right for you.
